Thank you for your response Steve. I ended up opening up a PMR on this to see what IBM said about it. This was their solution and it did work perfectly.
In the Admin Client using admin id, Select the right server , go to Configuration Tab-->Tools-->Certify--> Choose the right certifier id of the user (user's Organisational Unit id)-->Enter password-->Select the user id when next Dialog box appears-->It will prompt Error Accessing directory entry-Entry not found in index (which is normal as user name is already changed)-->Press Yes to certify the ID file anyways-->'Certify Id' dialog box will appear -->Press Add in the 'subject Name list' and enter user new name without hierarchy in the 'Common Name' Field i.e. Kashif Salahuddin instead of Kashif Salahuddin/IBM-->Press ok and you will see the right name in the Subject Name list now. Click Certify-->It will prompt to certify any other id-->No
the id now will be updated with the new name and send it back to the user after verifying the same. You can ask user to change the password as well. This is a simpler and only way to update physical id information
